We are honored to have been recently invited to contribute an editorial to the June 2020 issue of The Dermatologist Magazine. This opinion piece gave us an especially important opportunity to share a united message calling for resolve, change, unity and hope, representing the Skin of Color Society (SOCS) and the Dermatology Section of the National Medical Association (NMA). This powerful piece was contributed by SOCS leaders, Drs. Lynn McKinley-Grant (President), Seemal R. Desai (Immediate Past President) and Donald A. Glass, II (Secretary-Treasurer), and Dr. Chesahna Kindred, also a SOCS member and Chair of the Dermatology Section of the NMA.
The Skin of Color Society and Dermatology Foundation are pleased to introduce this new mid-career award that is intended to support the work of outstanding investigators with an established trajectory of excellence in basic, clinical, or translational science. The supported research projects are expected to yield novel results that expand the understanding of dermatological issues impacting underrepresented or underserved groups in medicine.
Applications will be accepted beginning September 15 and are due on or before December 1. Watch this space for additional application details.
(November 14, Chicago, IL)—The Skin of Color Society (SOCS), the world’s leading professional skin of color dermatology organization, has established a national health awareness day known as My Best Winter Skin Day, kicking off an annual seasonal campaign built around public education, volunteerism and giving. While raising awareness about a common skin condition that affects people of all ages, skin types and tones in the colder months of the year, funds raised through this public educational campaign will go to the SOCS Foundation to help support innovative research and mentorship in skin of color dermatology.
Thanks to support from many, big things are happening this year as we ready for the 20th Anniversary of the Skin of Color Society in 2024.
